For the past 20 years in August, Valley United Way’s Corporate Volunteer Council selects a school based on the number of children who received free lunch or reduced milk. All families are at or below the poverty line.  Each company purchases two complete outfits, shoes, a winter coat and a back pack full of school supplies for each student. One week before school starts the companies gather in the gym to meet their special ted child and present them with their gifts! The room is filled with so much joy and happiness!

Derrick, a little first grader, was overwhelmed with this great joy and after thanking and thanking his company for everything they gave him – all of his favorite things – ran home and wrote a note which said “Thank You from: Derrick! to live United for giving me clothes for back to school. I am Very Happy!” Derrick opened his piggy bank and rushed back to the school gym to give his dollar to Valley United Way! It had never happened before and was so overwhelming to the Valley United Way!
