Voter Registration Drive

Members of the CVC participating in the CT Secretary of State's "Feel the Power" campaign to increase voter registration include (l to r) Sharyn Symeon, Pitney Bowes; Colleen Spooner, Derby Savings Bank; Tom Harry/Nick Makes, Turner Construction; Lorraine Kiliany, Rhone Poulenc; Bob Costello, Philips Medical.

Only 70% of eligible Connecticut residents are currently registered to vote and Secretary of the State, Miles S. Rappaport, is looking to boost those numbers. The state has made changes to simplify the registration procedure so that individuals need only fill in a one page form and return it to the registrar of voters in the town in which they reside. Thanks to the Valley Council of Health & Human Service Organizations and the Volunteer Action Center's Corporate Volunteer Council, the Valley will be an active participant in the effort. Businesses connected with the Corporate Volunteer Council and agencies that are part of the Valley Council have a supply of forms and are coordinating the collection and mailing of completed forms. The goal is to increase the percentage of registered voters to 85% of the population. The project also has the backing of the Community Involvement Team of the Healthy Valley 2000 Project.

You can register to vote by stopping by any of the participating nonprofit agencies or checking with your employer to see if they are participating.
