United Illuminating posted a convincing
win in the 1997 Corporate Cup Bowling tournament as they
copped high single, high triple and high team totals on
the way to a 155 pin victory margin over runners-up
Plastic Molding Technology. The event which was held at
Valley Bowl attracted 26 teams and over 100 bowlers. Tony Sanchez paced the winning team with a high single score of 228 and a high triple of 584. U.I. lead from start to finish as they posted game scores of 761, 696 and 727 for a grand total of 2184. Bob Bowns was the leader for Plastic Molding Technology's second place team with his 212 high single and 556 high triple. PMT and U.I. were the only teams to crack the 2,000 pin mark with their 2029 figure. Other members of the team included Joe Arszyla, John O'Connell and Jean Coddington. John DeMarco, Bob Basilicato, Ann Marie Lawrence, and John Danovich bowled for W. E. Bassett's third place Trim Clippers team that posted a total score of 1,941. The Clippers had won the Small Division last year when there were two divisions. Birmingham #3 and former winner Gordon Rubber rounded out the top five with scores of 1,938 and 1,920 respectively. |
