CT Cardiac Screening Enhances Healthy Team Event
The Community Corporate Cup and the Healthy Team event are bigger than ever this year thanks to several new additions instituted through the event’s name sponsor – Griffin Hospital. The major event in the Cup series has always been the Healthy Team competition, which promotes healthy lifestyle changes throughout the event. Competitors are pre-screened for a variety of health benchmarks and then work to improve on those scores over the next three months by participating in a variety of activities including the other Cup events. They are then tested again at the end of the competition to see how they have improved.
As a special incentive this year, Healthy Team participants are being offered the opportunity to undergo a state of the art technique used to detect early heart disease at no cost. CT Cardiac Scoring is a non-invasive test performed using Griffin’s high speed, multi-detector CT scanner that can assess the presence of calcified plaque in the coronary arteries even before symptoms appear. The existence of calcified plaque is one of the strongest indicators that early heart disease is present – and that further action is needed. All members of the Healthy Team competition are eligible to be screened.
Free
Stress Reduction sessions will also be
available to all Healthy Team participants every Wednesday night at
Griffin Hospital throughout the Corporate Cup. And if that isn’t enough
of an incentive, special free healthy meals are also provided with
Griffin’s culinary staff preparing and demonstrating a healthy
breakfast, lunch and dinner.
Healthy
Team members also received a free membership at
the Valley YMCA for the duration of the competition. Valley
United Way and the Valley YMCA are partners in presenting the Cup series
and benefit from the proceeds.
United
Way Executive Director Jack Walsh praised Griffin Hospital and its
President, Patrick Charmel, for offering the new features. He said that,
“We have always placed a heavy emphasis on the life enhancing benefits
of the Corporate Cup and the Healthy Team Event, but the enhancements this
year provide an incredible incentive and value for individuals to take
control of their own health.”
