The
Valley United Way has announced that David Grant will chair the Community Fund
Raising Campaign for 2008-2009, filling the former position of Mike Marcinek,
who was recently named chair of the board of directors
"A lot has changed since the great depression, but
there are still needs in the community that must be met, and the community
campaign is still a critical element in the quality of life in the Valley,"
Grant said as he accepted the position at Valley United Way's 40th Annual
Meeting. "The importance of the community coming together in a unified campaign
is as important as ever." In making his remarks, Grant invited everyone in
attendance to join his team for the upcoming campaign and reinforced the message
by handing out "Live United" t-shirts to everyone in attendance to wear as their
unofficial campaign uniform.
As President of David M. Grant Caterers, he is
responsible for one of the Valley’s most celebrated catering services, in
business since 1974. He has built a solid reputation for quality food and
superior service throughout Southwestern Connecticut.
He is a past president of both the Boys & Girls Club
of the Lower Naugatuck Valley and the Derby-Shelton Rotary Club. He currently
serves on the boards of the Greater Valley Chamber of Commerce and the Shelton
Economic Development Corporation. Grant is also a founding board member of the
Valley Community Foundation as well as their newsletter editor.
No stranger to volunteering his services, Grant was
presented with the Gold Seal Award in 1996, the Valley community’s most
prestigious recognition for volunteerism. In 2007, he was selected as the
Platinum Award winner by the Chamber. In May 2001 he was on the scene of the
Ansonia Latex Foam Fire within minutes starting up his grills and cooking for
all the fire, police, and safety personnel on the scene.
