********************************************************************** The Community Corporate Cup is a collaborative effort of Valley United Way and the Valley YMCA designed to to improve fitness and quality of life while building company morale and showing community support. Begun in 1990, the event has evolved every year with events being added and removed in response to the desires of the competitors and an expanding array of new health initiatives. The Cup series encompasses a series of athletic (and not so athletic) events designed to provide an opportunity for area employers to improve fitness and quality of life among their employees while building company morale and showing community support. The key event is the Healthy Team Event where teams of two individuals represent their companies throughout the entire Cup competition. They work to improve their health and lifestyle picking up points along the way for activities ranging from healthy eating and exercise to reading about healthy lifestyles. A special highlight is a series of free healthy meals prepared by the culinary staff at Griffin Hospital. The Healthy Team competition is just one of the events for which teams earn points. Other events include darts, volleyball, bowling, miniature golf, horseshoes, and billiards. Points are awarded in each event and accumulated towards the ultimate goal of winning the Community Corporate Cup which is presented at an awards reception at the end of the competition.
